The raiders and their prisoners made their way towards a Mayan city, encountering slaves producing plaster. They also pass a small girl infected with some kind of disease who warns the raiders that their end is near and will be by the hand of one of the captives who runs with the Jaguar. In the city's outskirts, the female villagers are sold as slaves, and the male slaves are escorted into the city to the top of a step pyramid. The high priest sacrifices several captives by pulling out their hearts and then decapitating them. When Jaguar Paw is on the altar to be sacrificed, a solar eclipse the priest declares the sun god Kukulkan is satisfied with the sacrifices, and he asks the sun god to restore light. The eclipse passes, and light returns to the world. The rest of the slave are sent to be dispossed of. This is where Jaguar Paw escapes to find his wife and kid.
