In this image Count Olaf was looking at a magazine while waiting for the upcoming train to pass, he had left the kids: Klaus, Violet, and Sunny, locked inside the car and right in the path of the train. After their house was burned and their parents perished in the fire Mr. Poe took them to live with Count Olaf who would be their new guardian. Who only took them in to take posession of their money.
