Hitch is a "date doctor" who coaches other men in the art of wooing a woman. While coaching one of his clients, Albert Brennaman, who is in love with celebrity Allegra Cole, Hitch finds himself falling for Sara, who is a gossip columnist determined to unmask and ruin the so-called date doctor after one of his "clients" (who Hitch refused to work with) had a one-night stand with her best friend.
He helps Brennaman act the part of a celebrity boyfriend so that he can stay cool, dance, migle with celebrity people and be able to talk and go out with Allegra.
